An alarm clock sounds.
All around is a weird artificial city with snow. It’s a souvenir snow globe that says “Toronto, Canada”. Though it there is a snow filled window that reveals the cloudy snow covered Toronto city skyline with the CN tower in the center. It’s a small two-bedroom apartment. Over on a full sized bed, Kai is waking up. He is obviously not interested in going to work. He looks totally dead. He turns to a woman next to him, his wife Charity, who is still asleep. He sits up.
“Charity!”
Charity puts her hand around him.
“What is it honey.” She says as she groggily turns over.
Kai sits up.
”I just had the weirdest dream.” He says.
“Really? Can you tell me later, I’m really tired.” She says as she rolls back over.
“Yeah.” Says Kai. Still out of it.
He gets out of bed.
We see Kai walking up to his place of employment. A renovated brick loft style office building. As he walks up there is a homeless guy by the entrance with a sign that says “Wakeup”. Kai gives the man some change, and reads the sign.
“What are you talking about?” Kai asks incredulously. “I’m so tired right now, I don’t know what I’m gonna do!”
As a door slams, a well dressed female executive walks down a hall and through a door. She stops at a desk and yells at someone.
“You tell your people in Denver they better have that system up and running by 10 or were pulling the contract!”
It’s Kai at a tiny little desk in a hallway. He is obviously stressed. Before he can answer, another person walks up and yells at him.
“Here are the test results! they look terrible!”
He throws the results on Kai’s desk.
“Ok, ugh.” Kai replies sheepishly.
But before he can fully answer his phone rings.
“What’s going on!” Yells a bossy voice on the phone. “We just heard they’re going to pull the contract! What the hell did you do? We send you all the way to Toronto and this is the best you can do! You’re supposed to keep an eye out for trouble! And you call yourself an IT consultant! I’m going to call your boss and ask for a replacement. I need someone up there who’s on the ball! Do you here me! Hello! Hello! Kai! Kai!!! You’re going to be hearing about this!”
Kai is holding the phone from his ear, he is looking at the door like it’s an escape. He is just about to try to make a run for it. The person on the phone can still be heard yelling and cursing. As he gets up to go the Office Worker grabs his arm.
“Where do you think your going?”
Everything happens in slow motion as Kai makes a run for it down the hall.
“Get him!” Yells the office worker in a distorted voice. “Geeeeeeettt hiiiiiiiiimmm.”
Then, like a football player, Kai dodges and ducks and jumps over desks. Papers are flying in all directions people are running and it’s total pandemonium.
“Don’t let him escape!” Yells the office worker.
Kai’s heads for the door but someone comes through like they are expecting him. So he turns looking for an alternate escape. On the left is a bathroom and on the right is a closet. He goes for the bathroom. As soon as he enters he locks the door in a nick of time. The office people chasing him hit the closed door and their bodies pile up outside like a bunch of mindless zombies.
From inside the bathroom Kai hears all kinds of weird noises as the zombie office workers try to claw though the locked door.
He frantically looks for a way out but there isn’t any, so he sticks his head out of the window.
“Help me!!!” He screams frantically. “Help me!!!”
Kai looks back in to the bathroom. The zombies are pounding on the door. It is shaking violently. He sticks his head out of the window again.
“Somebody Help me!!! He frantically screams again. “Help me!!!”
Suddenly a strange looking man appears on the counter out of thin air. Kai is shocked and surprised and terrified at the same time.
“Stay away from me!” Kai screams at the mysterious man. “You hear me! Stay away!”
“Do I look like I want to hurt you?” the man replies.
“How did you get in here?” Kai asks.
“Where?” He replies. “Oh here. I just materialized.”
“Materialized?” Kai says grabbing his head. “Man I really am losing it!”
The man continues. “It’s not so hard really. I just set an intention, for my divine essence, of which we are all composed, to lower its mean vibratory rate to that of your world. And bam! Here I am.”
“Ok anyway,” says Kai, totally unbelieving. “look I gotta get out of here, you have to help me. They’re trying to kill me!”
The man sits there totally calm. The zombies are shaking the door down. He starts to file his nails.
“Yes, well,” the man replies calmly. “What else is new? That’s what happens when you sell out.”
“What do you mean sell out?” Kai says totally surprised at this. “I haven’t sold out. Sold out what!”
Acting totally disinterested, the man points and suddenly floating in mid air a video image appears.
On the video image Kai and a well-dressed recruiter sits in a nice corporate boardroom. There are papers in front of Kai and they are making some kind of deal.
“Well Mr. Trueheart,” Says the recruiter. “We are very pleased to make you an offer. We are willing to pay you $100,000 salary plus $10,000 a month in travel expenses.”
Voices trail off and the video image shrinks and closes.
Kai looks at the man.
“Yeah, the money was good.” Kai replies sheepishly. “But so what!” His frustration rising. “So what if for the first time in my life I can buy things without having to think about the price. So damn what! But It ain’t worth this man!”
Kai breaks down and starts to cry. The man focused on filing his nails notices and looks up at Kai.
“Really?” Says the man.
“I don’t want to come here in the morning.” Kai sobs. “I feel like I’m just showing up ya know. Actually not me, just my body, my soul is somewhere else. I have no idea where, just not here. Why do I feel so dead? Why? What am I doing wrong?”
The man perks up as if finally something is getting his attention.
“Ahh the question.” Says the man. “It’s true what they say isn’t it?“
“What?” Asks Kai curiously.
“That it’s not so much about knowing the right answers,” replies the man. “as much as it’s about asking the right questions.”
With that the man smiles and snaps his fingers in Kai’s face. Kai jumps back. Jus then the zombies office workers finally break down the door and come after them. But instead of the bathroom, the mysterious man and Kai are walking though a beautiful park on a perfect day. They walk past some kids playing.
“What tha!” Says Kai shocked.
“The reason you feel dead” responds the man. “is because you’re disconnected from the source.”
“The source?” Says Kai.
“You must let Love inspire you!” the man replies.
“Love?” Asks Kai.
“Yes, Love, the source of all things.” Says the man.
“Huh?” Kai responds incredulously.
“Look,” responds the man. “To be inspired means to trust your instincts and to move into that space that is interesting, fun and alive!”
“Ok I get it,” Says Kai, losing it. “This is some kind of dream. I mean, I’m having a nervous break down. Yeah!”
The man ignoring Kai’s reaction continues on.
“But there is a difference between doing something you feel inspired to do and doing something out of fear. Unfortunately in your world most people choose fear. In fact your entire society is based on it.”
They watch a scared businessman on a phone with a laptop who looks totally stressed out.
“What do you mean!” Yells the businessman panicked into his cell phone. “It’s a closed deal! You can’t back out now! I don’t care if the products bad! I want my commission godammit!”
“Yeah that’s exactly how I feel! Says Kai pointing at the man. “Scared!”
“Remember fear is the enemy.” Says the mysterious man. “It is easy for fear to disguise itself as inspiration when our minds tells us that the only way to get something is to do something else. Then we feel like we must take a certain action because we think it is the ONLY way. But we cannot see the divine plan.”
“Ok, that’s it!” Says Kai rebelling. “Love, inspiration, divine plan? What are you talking about!? What does any of this have to do with me!?”
They walk past park benches. We see a woman standing on her head in a yoga pose, a Catholic nun praying with a rosary on her knees and a young man meditating on a bench.
“Everything!” The man retorts. “Look, don’t do it all by yourself, don't try to FIGURE it out. Let Love's creative spirit move you in the right direction. Think of life like a maze with many choices and dead ends…”
They look over the shoulder of a person reading a book called “How to make a million dollars in ten days.”
“Hey I was just planning to read that book.” Says Kai calmly.
“Don’t waste your time!” Retorts the man.
Suddenly Kai and the mysterious man are floating in space. In quick succession they observe the big bang, the creation of the universe and the formation of the solar system all originating from a divine light. After the Earth is created the divine light is shining down on it. As the man and Kai are standing in the middle of space the earth suddenly zooms up at them and they are back in the park.
“Agghh!” screams Kai.
The man continues as if nothing happened.
“Love on the other hand, made the maze, knows its every detail and can see it from every angle, She can see the whole maze and it’s most efficient solution. So the thing to do is to ask Love to show you the most efficient way out of the maze.”
“Ask Love?” Says Kai incredulously. “Oh come on! What does love have to do with this!”
“Yes,” says the man. “Love talks to you and guides you with inspiration.”
Just as the man says this, as if on que, they walk by a musician playing beautiful music in the park. The same divine light that they saw from space is now shining on the musician. Beautiful divinely colored musical notes emanate out from his instrument and spread across the park. A few move across their path as they talk.
“Wow! That’s how it works!” Says Kai “as if he is finally starting to understand.”
“Inspiration is Love's creative energy moving though you,” says the man. “Using you, playing you as the beautiful musical instrument that you are!”
Next they come across an artist painting a stunningly beautiful painting on an easel. Again, the divine light shine on the artist. Ribbons of the colors she paints leap off the canvas and three of the colors spread ahead of the painter enlightening everything they touch. Kai runs and tries to catch the ribbons but they slip through his fingers.
“But don’t I have to have talent to be inspired?” Kai asks confused.
The man stops as if what Kai just said was the stupidest thing on earth. He turns to Kai and stars at him for a long time. Finally he says to Kai.
“Inspiration IS talent.”
“Love inspires all of us all the time” continues the man, “but like most people, you don’t recognize it when it occurs. You don’t listen.”
Suddenly the man turns to Kai in an even more serious manner.
“Kai, it’s your choice. You can go back to living that deluded fear based life you were living, relentlessly chasing after all the meaningless things of the world.” He pauses for a long time. “Or, you can start living an inspired life and find the happiness, peace and joy that is rightfully yours.”
“Ok?” Says Kai surrendering.
“Do you have a dream Kai?” The man asks
“Yeah I have dreams, who doesn’t.” replies Kai.
“Kai no matter what your dream is. Remember, it pales in comparison to Love’s dream for your life.”
Hearing this Kai starts to get upset.
“Love’s dream!? What about my dreams? Don’t I have a say in the matter?”
“Kai my friend,” says the man. “You already had a say in the matter.”
“What?” Kai asks puzzled.
“Yes,” the man continues. “before you were born, in the heart of creation, you and Love sat down together and wrote a grand plan for your life. You we’re shown how that plan would perfectly fit together with everyone else’s plan, creating an ever expanding grand mosaic of love. So you see, Love’s dream for you is your dream for you. Everything else is just so many small potatoes. This true dream is your purpose and destiny.”
Kai lights up.
“Wow! That’s amazing!” So what is it?
“What is what?” Replies the man.
“My purpose and destiny?” Says Kai. “What is it?”
“That,” says the man. “You will have to discover for yourself.”
“What?” says Kai shocked. “Oh come on! You put on this big grand show and all, and now at the end you’re not even going to tell me!”
“Sorry,” The man says totally not caring. ”but that would take all the fun out of it, don’t ya think.”
“Hey do you always have to be so damn cryptic?” retorts Kai.
“Are you ready to have some real fun!” replies the man.
“Yeah, I’m always ready to have some fun!” says Kai.
“Then kneel.” Says the man.
Kai is shocked at this request.
“What!”
“Kneel!” The man commands.
“Can’t you just snap your fingers’” Kai asks. “or something, why do I have to kneel?”
The man calmly looks at Kai and then continues.
“Kai, the first lesson you must learn is humility. Remember you are nothing.” He pauses for a long time. “Without Love” He pauses again. “but with love” …
“you”
“are”
“everything!”
The man smiles and finally Kai kneels. Suddenly the man turns into a beautifully radiant being of light. He stands over Kai holding a giant blue sword it glows with a blue flame. The man raises his arms.
Kai tries to block him.
“Hey! Hey!” Kai screams. “What the hell are you doing, man!!!”
“Oh and, by the way,” the man replies smartly. “just because you ask the right questions, doesn’t mean you’ll like the answers.”
The man swings down with all of his might. Kai tries to block the blow but is hit. A blue energy shoots from the man through the sword and into Kai everything explodes into a brilliant blue light. Kai screams for his life.
“Aggghhhhh!!”
Kai is falling, eyes clothes, though a blue star filled void. He hears the mans voice echoing all around him.
“Kai Trueheart your mission is to awaken to who your really are. You must discover your divinely inspired gifts. You must learn to trust and have faith. With your truth you shall slay the demons of fear, doubt, shame, guilt and insecurity. When you have successfully done these things then and only then will your true dream, your true purpose be known. Only then will your destiny be revealed.”
Kai is now back in the office he is sleeping at his desk. It is silent at first but then slowly the sound fades in and we overhear people talking.
“Hey, hey! Look at em. Sleeping on the job!” Says someone in the office.
“Yeah what a disgrace.” Says another
“Who hired that guy?” Says someone else.
“Yeah someone should report him. Really.” Announces another.
A very purposeful office worker deliberately walks over to Kai, and tries to wake him.
“Here are the test results they look terrible!” Yells the office worker.
He throws the results on Kai’s desk.
Kai wakes up and looks around confused.
“Ugh, no not now.” Says Kai.
“Whatever man!” screams the office worker as they march off in disgust.
Kai, not caring, sits up and looks around.
“Unbelievable, I definitely need a break from this place.” Says Kai to himself.
Kai looks over at his co-worker Ling.
“Ling,” Kai blurts. “how long was I out?”
Ling buried in his work looks up surprised.
“Long enough,” replies Ling. “to get us in trouble!”
“Why didn’t you wake me, man!” yells Kai.
“Are you ok?” asks Ling surprised. “You look like you just died or something.”
“Well actually,” replies Kai. “You know I’ve been having a lot of weird dreams lately.”
